Bitcoin fraud, former Microsoft engineer sentenced to 9 years in prison

A former engineer at technology company Microsoft has been sentenced to nine years in prison for fraudulently using 10 million bitcoins (currency) with the company.

The engineer reportedly used bitcoins to hide taxable income, and later filed a fraudulent tax return.

He reportedly used the stolen money to buy a $ 1.6 million house on the lake and a 60 160,000 luxury car (Tesla).

The 26-year-old engineer, Volodymyr Kovshok, worked with Microsoft from 2016 to 2018 and pretended that the company was undergoing a testing program.

In February 2020, a five-member jury in the Western District of Washington found him guilty of fraud, money laundering, concealment of identity, filing of fake tax returns, and mail fraud and various other offenses.
