A two-member bench of the Indian Supreme Court comprising DY Chandrachore and Indira Banerjee will hear Arnab Goswami's petition tomorrow (November 12), The Indian Express reported.
Apart from the state government, journalist and anchor Arnab Goswami has named Station House Officer of Alibagh Police Station and Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh as parties in the petition filed in the Supreme Court.
Yesterday, the Bombay High Court rejected the bail pleas of Arnab Goswami and two other accused in a case of incitement to suicide registered in 2018.
The accused could have approached the Sessions Courts for bail in the next four days and they had approached the Alibagh Sessions Courts.
However, the court rejected the pleas of the three accused. Arnab Goswami's lawyers Harish Cello and Abad had said in the petition that Arnab Goswami's arrest was "completely illegal".
On November 4, Sanjay Mohat, a senior Mumbai police officer, said that the case against Republic TV founder Arnab Goswami was linked to the deaths of Anwe Naik, an interior designer, and his mother, whom police called a suicide.
The suicide note written by Anu Naik to the police stated that he was ending his life because Arnab Goswami and others had taken a large sum of money from him which they refused to return. Denied the allegations.
It may be recalled that Arnab Goswami in his shows strongly supports Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his nationalist policy and is often seen shouting at rivals.
Arnab Goswami was first shifted to a temporary quarantine center in Ali Bagh after his arrest, but was later transferred to Taloja Central Jail after allegedly using a mobile phone.
