The US embassy in the Turkish capital, Ankara, has said it is temporarily suspending visa services from all its missions in Turkey due to credible reports of terrorist attacks and kidnappings of US citizens in Istanbul.
According to Arab News, the US embassy in Turkey said on Friday that "the US mission in Turkey has received credible reports that citizens of other places in Turkey, including Istanbul, including the US Consul General, the US and other countries, may be abducted and But there could be terrorist attacks.
A US embassy spokesman said the statement was made in light of the security situation in Turkey.
In 2017, on New Year's Eve, a lone assailant attacked a nightclub in Istanbul, killing 39 people, for which ISIS claimed responsibility.
The attack was one of several militant attacks that killed dozens of people in other parts of Turkey, including Istanbul.
Following the attack, Turkish authorities cracked down on suspected ISIS and Kurdish militants and arrested hundreds of people.
