The Punjab government has hinted at closing educational institutions in Lahore due to smog. According to details, the Punjab government's technical sub-working group for anti-Karuna has suggested that educational institutions be closed if the smog level of air pollution exceeds 300. Increasing smog is increasing air pollution which is also feared to increase the corona epidemic, Lahore is currently one of the top cities affected by smog, if the proportion of air pollution in Lahore goes above 300, the Punjab government should close educational institutions.
The Technical Sub Working Group has suggested to the government that markets and bazaars in other cities including Lahore should be closed at 7 o'clock. According to the recommendation of the sub-working group, the wedding halls should be held before 9 pm. According to media sources, the PDMA's technical sub-working group has come up with these suggestions as the proportion of air pollution from smog in the city is increasing day by day. A final decision will be made in the next three days after reviewing the air ratio from smog.
Due to the increase in air pollution due to smog in other cities including Lahore, there are fears of spreading various diseases including corona. In Lahore, the administration has started taking steps to curb smog. In this regard, CTO Lahore has started crackdown against smoke emitting vehicles in the city and several vehicles have been fined and several vehicles have been sealed.
The CTO Lahore said that Safe Cities was using cameras to catch the emitting vehicles. It should be noted that educational institutions in Punjab have been reopened since September 15 last month after being closed for six months. If the smog continues to increase, educational institutions may be closed again. Earlier, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood had also hinted at closing down educational institutions due to increase in Karuna cases. A girls' college and Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad have also been closed due to corona cases being reported on Monday. In addition, Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad will remain closed till November 6, while students will continue their education through online classes.
