Clashes resume in Azerbaijan and Armenia

Clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia resumed hours after the ceasefire, with the capital of the disputed region of Nogorno Karabakh erupting with explosions.

According to the news agency, seven powerful explosions took place in the capital of Karabakh just hours after the implementation of the ceasefire yesterday.

Clashes between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Karabakh conflict began last month, killing more than 450 people so far.

The two sides declared a ceasefire on Saturday under Russian mediation, but clashes resumed hours later.

Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement.

Azerbaijani officials say a temporary ceasefire was for the exchange of prisoners and bodies, and will not back down from efforts to regain control of Karabakh.

Turkey says a ceasefire is the first important step, but it is the last chance for Armenia to leave Karabakh.

Karabakh had forged a self-imposed secession from Azerbaijan in the 1990s, which has not been recognized by any country.
