Pakistani engineer Nasir Khan has been awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honors List 2020 in recognition of her services to the Muslim and Black and Minority Ethnic Communities in the UK. Khan is a co-founder of Muslims in Rail CIC, a social enterprise and community interest company working with a vision of connecting and encouraging Muslims working in the rail industry and aspiring to work.
Nasir Khan said that this award is a source of pride for me. I have been a champion of interfaith relations for many years and raising awareness about equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) has always been a personal matter for me. The Queen awards MBEs for outstanding achievements or services that have a long-term impact on the community.
Nasir Khan added, "I never thought that my passion would lead to the formation of a network of like-minded people and the establishment of a social enterprise called Muslims in Rail CIC." Khan has also developed standard plans and guidelines for multi-faith rooms and has helped create more than 75-plus multi-faith rooms across the UK.
