PEMRA bans drama serial 'Jalan'

According to the press release, the channel took action as there was no significant change in the script of the play and banned the broadcast of the said drama under Section 27 of the PEMRA Ordinance.

PEMRA said that the channel management had been repeatedly warned to review the content of the play and bring the script in line with Pakistani values, otherwise action would be taken.

The press release also said that PEMRA had issued a detailed guideline to all the channels on August 18 in which the final guideline was issued to make the content of dramas in accordance with Pakistani values.

PEMRA said that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had to ban the broadcast of 'Jalan' drama as no significant action was taken by the channel management.

The press release said that ARY Digital has been directed to implement the ban immediately.

It may be recalled that on September 4, PEMRA had banned the re-broadcasting of drama serials 'Eshqiya' and 'Pyar Ke Sadqa' for airing content contrary to 'social and religious values'.

PEMRA had banned the recurrence of both dramas not only on ARY Digital, Hum TV but also on ARY Zindagi and Hum Sitara.

At the same time, PEMRA had directed ARY to review the content of the drama on the complaints received against the drama serial 'Jalan'.

It may be recalled that after the teaser of Jalan drama came out in June this year, it was criticized even before the start of the drama and people were calling the story of the drama against Pakistani social traditions.

In the play, Areeba and Manal Khan have played the roles of sisters while Emad Irfani has played the role of Areeba Habib's husband and Manal Khan's brother-in-law.

After the teaser of this drama came out, many people on social media criticized the story of the drama and termed it as against the Pakistani society while the trend of Wahyat drama was also on top on Twitter.
