Iran seeks to assassinate US ambassador to avenge General Qasem Soleimani: US Magazine

An American magazine has claimed that Iran wants to assassinate the US ambassador to avenge General Qasim Soleimani.

According to the details, the American magazine Politico has claimed that Iran wants to assassinate the American ambassador to South Africa in order to avenge its slain General Qasim Soleimani.

The American magazine says that Iran is looking for ways to avenge General Qasim Soleimani. If the US ambassador is killed, tensions between the two countries may increase.

Lana Marks, the US ambassador to South Africa, was appointed last October.

The report says that US intelligence is already aware of the dangers posed to Lana Marx, but that those threats have become more "specific" in recent weeks.

US Ambassador to South Africa Lana Marks

Lana Marx was nominated for the post of ambassador by US President Donald Trump in 2018, but she was sworn in last October.

According to the magazine, US government officials said Lana Marx had also been alerted to the threat under the Intelligence Community Protocol, while the Iranian embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, was involved in the plot against her. Intelligence is unable to understand why Lana Marx is the target.

It should be noted that General Qasim Soleimani, the leader of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, was killed by the United States in a drone strike on January 3, 2020 in Baghdad, Iraq. Iran has demanded revenge from the United States for the killings.
