The Supreme Court fined the senior lawyer Rs 1.

The Indian Supreme Court has fined senior lawyer and social activist Prashant Bhushan Rs 1 in a contempt of court case.

The Supreme Court on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 1 on senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan in a contempt of court case. The court said that if he did not pay the fine by September 15, he would have to serve three months in jail and his license to practice law would be suspended for three years.

It may be recalled that Prashant Bhushan had some time ago used harsh language about the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India through Twitter. He had also accused some Chief Justices of India of corruption.

The court indicted Prashant Bhushan on August 14 and ordered him to apologize unconditionally, but he said he would not apologize.

In a press conference after the verdict, Prashan Bhushan announced that he would pay a fine of one rupee. He held the press conference holding a one rupee coin in his hand.

Sharing a photo on Twitter with senior lawyer Rajiv Dhawan, who is fighting his case in court, Prashant Bhushan said that his co-lawyer had paid him the fine.
