A majority of UN Security Council members opposed the US call for the lifting of international sanctions on Iran.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo presented a letter to the United Nations yesterday calling for the resumption of international sanctions on Iran.According to foreign media, the United States is facing isolation on the issue of lifting sanctions on Iran, as 13 of the 15 members of the Security Council have opposed the lifting of sanctions on Iran.
Thirteen members of the Security Council have stated opposition to using force or imposing sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.According to foreign media reports, key US allies, including Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, China, Russia, Vietnam, Niger, South Africa, Indonesia and Tanzania have written letters of opposition to the US move.

The United States has accused Iran of violating a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers that would have prevented Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon and provided relief in exchange for international sanctions. Diplomats say other countries, including Russia and China, are not in favor of reinstating sanctions on Iran.
