Fugitive former Spanish monarch revealed in Abu Dhabi.

A spokesman for the royal family in Abu Dhabi said the 82-year-old former Spanish king was in Abu Dhabi, according to Reuters.

It should be noted that the young Carlos had said on August 3 that he would leave Spain after the controversial aspects of his former private life came to light, but did not say where he was going.

The spokesman said Carlos had told the royal family that he had left for the UAE on August 3 and was now there.

After leaving the throne, he tried to take a step back from public life but the scandal arose.

As a result, Spain's Supreme Court in June launched a preliminary investigation into Saudi Arabia's involvement in a high-speed rail deal.

According to a Swiss newspaper, Carlos had received 10 100 million from the late King of Saudi Arabia, of which Switzerland had also launched an investigation.

The former king was not formally interrogated and repeatedly refused to comment on the matter.

His lawyer said he was in the custody of the Spanish prosecutor.

Justice Minister Juan Carlos Campo said the former king would return to Spain to answer to judges if needed.

"I am confident that they will be present when the demands of justice are met," he said.

It may be recalled that the Spanish daily 'ABC' had reported 10 days ago that Juan Carlos had traveled to Abu Dhabi from the Spanish city of Vigo in a private plane.

Some media outlets speculated that he was in the Dominican Republic or Portugal.
