Dog meat should be eaten or not

Yes, I have experienced this. But let me explain. To me, it's like beef and pork and duck ...

When the person sitting next to him was asked if he would ever go on a date with a person who eats dog meat, the answer was no.

Both men are from South Korea. Where dog meat is eaten and there are also restaurants for it. But the new generation has seen an increase in the trend of raising dogs and a decrease in the process of eating pets as food.

And in recent years, the situation has become so divisive that residents seem divided over whether to eat dog meat.

In South Korea, the government is now under pressure to demand a ban on dog meat.

According to one woman, there are many other types of meat and all of them are a source of protein. "Beef, chicken, pork are great varieties."

Why should Korea allow the use of dog meat and encourage such measures?

One of the people who spoke in his favor said that the reason is that nowadays people feel bad about it because of American influence and such people are portrayed as savages.

"When someone else stops you from eating, people don't like it," he says.

The law regarding the dog meat industry in Korea is not clear.

Dogs are listed as livestock by the government, but there is no regulation on the trade in dog meat in the country.

Regarding the use of dog meat, another Korean woman said, "The new generation sees dogs only as pets. But in the past, dogs were raised for food like rabbits.

"It was all part of our culture," she says. Many elders are still alive. And they are part of our community.

Sitting next to him, a colleague has a different opinion. He says that puppies like us, hug us, love us.

But they question that some people will like pigs, but will dogs and pigs have the same love and affection?

Their position is that I think two different animals should be treated differently.

It should be noted that since 2017, two major dog meat markets in South Korea have been closed.

On the other hand, hundreds of dogs are still being raised on farms.

They are called dog meat farms where many dogs are kept in one cage.

There, their life is very different from that of a stray dog or a domestic dog.

"Our livelihoods are in jeopardy," said Joe Youngbang, president of the Dog Farmers Association. We cannot allow our trade to be terminated.

But in the opinion of those who oppose the use of dogs for food, this chain should be stopped. He says dogs are hung upside down in shops every morning, they are bitten and this is wrong.

Some say we are hearing their voices at the moment.

But time is changing in the opinion of those who are in favor of it and when we respect each other, we must also resolve our differences.

One woman said she respects dog meat eaters but believes that laws and regulations need to be put in place to keep the industry afloat.

Those who justify the use of dog meat as food are of the opinion that strict hygiene rules should be introduced.

There, in South Korea, Human Society International is a charity that has been working with dog breeders since 2014. And then helping to find a new home for these dogs.

The agency also provides a one-year grant to start-up farmers to find new homes for their dogs in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

People who domesticate these dogs use the word 'rescue' for them. They say they rescued them from a South Korean farm, meaning they saved them from becoming food.

Claire lives in Brighton and two years ago she rescued a dog from a South Korean meat farm named Henry.

She says the first meeting with Henry was very emotional.

Many caged dogs were not allowed to go out for defecation. Underneath the holes in the cage was a scene of rot and gutters.
