According to the BBC, a "state of war" has been declared in Urumqi, the capital of China's eastern province of Xinjiang, following an increase in corona virus cases.
According to figures released by authorities on Saturday, 17 new patients had appeared here, following which strict restrictions have been imposed on movement.
Although these figures are seemingly modest, China has not seen a significant spread of the virus to other parts of the country except Wuhan.
Xinjiang is predominantly Uighur Muslim and has strong state control.
New orders have been issued for the latest lockdown in Urumqi, including large-scale testing in buildings where new patients have emerged.
Large gatherings and visiting each other's homes are prohibited. Leaving the city is only allowed if absolutely necessary and tests are required before leaving, etc.
