War Crimes in Syria: US Rejects UN Report
Washington rejects United Nations report on US airstrikes in
war-torn Syria.
According to news agency AFP, US Special Envoy for Syria Jim
Jeffrey rejected the UN report, which revealed that "US air force air
strikes require the necessary precaution to distinguish between military
targets and civilians." Not brought in for the sake of it. '
It is understood that the UN Commission investigated the US
airstrikes and said that coalition forces launched several airstrikes in
Syria's southern province in January this year, and in one of those airstrikes,
16 civilians were killed.
The facts presented by the commission stated that US allied
forces failed to fully follow the instructions needed to target the military
targets.
The Commission said that "civilians were killed and
injured as a result of indiscriminate attacks and the number is so high that
these attacks are criminalized."
The report acknowledged 'negligence at the time of the air
strike'.
It should be noted that in the previous UN report, the US
attacks in Syria were declared war crimes.
Jim Jeffrey, the US Special Envoy for Syria in Geneva, told
reporters, "We are very careful when conducting military operations."
"We do not recognize the UN report," he said.
It is to be noted that on June 1, US allied forces
acknowledged that more than 137 civilians were killed in 'air strikes' in Iraq
and Syria over the past five years against terrorist organization ISIS.
The coalition forces announced that US coalition forces
carried out 34,502 airstrikes between August 2014 and April 2019.
Amnesty International (AI), on the other hand, called the
figures released by US allied forces on civilian casualties.
The World Human Rights Organization said the number of
civilians killed in airstrikes is much higher than the US claims.
It may be recalled that last month, Amnesty and the air
strikes agency Airwaar revealed that about 166 civilians were killed in attacks
in the Syrian city of Dana during the last four months.
According to the non-governmental organization Airwar,
attacks by US allies have killed a total of approximately 7,900 civilians.
According to the London-based Siren Observatory for Human
Rights, airstrikes by coalition troops in Syria alone killed 3,800 civilians.
