Iranian President Hassan Rouhani faces travel bans in New York



UN: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has arrived in New York to attend the UN General Assembly but is not allowed to travel to most of the city's locations during his presence.

The Iranian president faces similar sanctions restrictions imposed on Iranian mission staff in July.

Under sanctions Hassan Rouhani cannot go far beyond the UN headquarters, located in the eastern part of Manhattan Island.

However, the US government has granted them special hotel accommodations.

Hassan Rouhani will address the UN General Assembly on Wednesday and hold a press conference.

The Iranian leader is restricted to First Avenue and East 42nd Street to the south and East 48th Street to the north.

Similar sanctions were also imposed in the past on US unwanted world leaders, including former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
