Tensions rise again as Jews are allowed to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque

Hundreds of Jewish pilgrims enter Jerusalem to celebrate a religious holiday, sparking clashes between Israeli police and Muslim protesters.

According to the French news agency AFP, the Palestinians condemned the tension and the entry of Jews into the compound of the highly sensitive Al-Aqsa Mosque.

On the other hand, Israel's right-wing Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett supported the decision to allow Jews to enter the compound of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, known as the Temple Mount.

Israeli police claimed that Palestinian youths hurled stones at a police force at Temple Mount on Sunday morning, but no arrests or injuries were reported.

The EU delegation to Palestine said in a tweet that it was "concerned about the ongoing tensions" and called for "no provocation".

At the same time, he called on Israelis, religious and community leaders, to respect the status quo and to "immediately calm down" the situation.

The incident took place on the occasion of the Jewish festival of Teshabu, which traditionally commemorates the demolition of two synagogues at Temple Mount.

The shrine is located in East Jerusalem, which was occupied by Israel in 1967, but is managed by Muslim Waqfs, who are reluctant to allow Jews access.

Dozens of Palestinians were injured and seven were arrested in the violence that erupted two years ago when the Jewish and Muslim holidays coincided.
