The gas shortage situation will continue for 2 years, the government said

The gap between natural gas production and demand in the country has been widening for the past several years due to which there will be a shortage of gas in winter. According to Nadeem Babar, the situation of gas shortage will continue for the next two years. The main reason is that no new gas exploration agreement has been signed in the last five years.

He said that unless domestic production of gas increases, dependence on LNG will continue to increase in the coming years. He said work on the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline had stalled due to US sanctions, while there were no sanctions on Tapi.

This was stated by Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan for Petroleum Nadeem Babar while talking to foreign media. He said that domestic gas production in Pakistan is declining by seven to nine percent annually.

In winter, load management has to be done according to the demand for gas for which the Ministry of Energy is preparing a plan.
